Commentary #5 - MAXXIS Open (2006-Mar-19)

Fellow Shotgunners,

Once again the Sporting Clays Captain has bettered him self. The Maxxis shoot was truly superb. Mr. Geoffrey Ziadie (Mr. Maxxis himself) has certainly set the bar a few notches higher. The all inclusive Chinese lunch was simply maaaarvelous, and the cake was the coup de grace to end the meal. The conch soup I heard was divine as all I have to go on is hear say, by the time I got around to the soup it was all over. Mr. Maxxis also stated anyone shooting 100/100 would receive tyres up to $40,000.00 in value. I believe our Captain needs to sign this company up for the next 5 years.

Well unto the actual shoot, the targets were once again interesting and testy. All in all I believe the majority of shooters walked away wondering how they missed some. Congrats to Oneil for another good course.

Surprise, surprise, surprise, Lazarus has come forth. A blast from the past has surfaced, an oldie but goldie, a gone but not forgotten has returned. Banksie returns in triumph. After what seems like an eternity 'Mrytle' Banks (89)has returned to the winners circle. Congrats 'old man', now if only his eldest son (Suby) can emulate the old Master.

Wait stop the press, Bobby Chung Runner up(88), this requires some investigation............... After being in the wilderness for so long, a member of the 'has been squad', and placed on the 'suicide watch, an inside informant from Mannings Hill road has given me clues pointing to Bobby's sudden resurgence.
1.The super squad was short one twin, 'Should-A'.
2.'Should-A' was replaced by a new member Craig 'Lucky' Chin.
3.The three members, Bobby, Damian, and 'Lucky' were able to manage 'Could-A'.
Does this mean the 'Super Squad' will be seeing changes...............

Peter McConnell could not recreate his outstanding shooting from last years Maxxis shoot when he shot 100/100 but he took A-Class 1st with a score of (87) keeping another 'Old Master' Kull (86) in 2nd. After Kull's dismal showing in Macon, Georgia at the Triple Classic, this is sure to remove him from the 'Suicide watch'. Our Captain, Craig(85) rounded out A-Class in 3rd place.

Folks another oldie, 'Boom Boom Sleem' (84) beat all B-Class shooters into submission, 'box lunch' and all. Kurt Hudson (81) used experience and size to defeat young Shaun Barnes in a shoot off for 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Look out people the 'Steroid Posse' after so much scrutiny has come up with a new cocktail that bears watching, Kingsley (78) walked away with C-Class honours. He assured me that this one is undetectable.......we shall see. Demshire (75) displaying all the savvy, guile and treachery defeated young Jonathon Banks,(from the 'Mytrle' Banks tree) in an exciting shoot off, placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

There seems to be a trend here, John Barnes (79) another old timer won D-Class. After what seems like endless years of being beaten by his sons, John has returned to the limelight. Another member of the 'Steroid posse' Albert Chow (76) was 2nd and in the shoot off of the day, Doctor Cleo Taylor (65) displaying a true sence of class, style and economy defeated Bassilios Hado for 3rd place.

Andrew Simpson (80) younger brother to Craig waltzed away with E-Class, showing big brother that he too had talent. Bob Simpson (65), Father to Craig and Andrew, placed 2nd showing both sons 'chips don't fall far from block'. Glen Brooks (65) rounded out E-Class, (too many Simpsons, Glenn).

Once again Nikolas Hudson (73) was the clear winner in Juniors, Dillon Wilson (63) was 2nd and Abe Azan (56) was 3rd.

In Sub Juniors Tim Azan (38) edged out Zach Chong (35) with Adam Ziadie (19) in 3rd place. It is good to see all the youngsters being exposed so early, it bodes well for our future. We would like to encourage all Fathers and Mothers to bring them out and participate.

Our next shoot will be held at the Caymanas Golf Club, this will also be a shotgun start. Bring the family as there is a pool a lovely Club House overlooking part of the course and for those that would like to hone their putting skill, a practice putting green. This should be another stellar event and at a lovely venue, see you there.

Commentary #4 - Bernard Cridland (2006-Mar-03)

Shoot Fans,

WOW !!!!!!!!!! If you were not at 'Sligo' for the 'Bernard Cridland Memorial' you missed the 'fireworks'. What a well organised, well run, well thought out, event, and we haven't started on the targets yet. The planning and careful placement of these targets were well worth the entry fee. A plus to the course setter and management of the shoot. We hope the organisers of the remaining shoots will use the same format, (Shotgun Start) for their tournaments. I am told that Khaleel Azan is the man to talk to about how to run this format.

On to the good 'stuff'.;

The 'President' shot what has to described as a 'Maaaarvelous' score. The man is on 'fire'. The only question is how would he have held up if it had started to rain and stained those 'spit' shine boots.......... Robert Yap was edged out of Runner up spot by the talented Geoffrey Ziadie in an enthralling shoot off. Yappy was over heard saying he still has 10 lbs. to lose and nobody has a chance to take the title 'Shotgun Champion'.

Chris Kean, welcome to A-Class, once again Chris has shown he owns all B-Class Shooters( he was over heard saying to his posse 'Who's your Daddy"),winning the Class by 4 targets. The up and coming Sean Barnes is showing signs of being a 'sleeper'. Consistently beating his Father, John, Sean barely edged 'Boogsy' duQuesnay into 3rd, wonder if it had anything to do with the lovely distraction accompanying 'Boogsy'.

Folks, what a surprise to the C-Class shooters when out of nowhere Eddie Azan takes Class honours. Eddie had shown great potential in the past only to disappear, wonder if he has been hiding and practicing or maybe he too has a lovely distraction........Hmmmmmmmm. Jonathon Banks of the 'Myrtle Banks' tree displayed some fine shooting to beat into submission Kingsley Chin(of the steroid posse) and Afeef Lazarus in the only other shoot off for Class 2nd and 3rd.

Richard Shim after threatening, has broken through with a win in D-Class. In a close race Gassan Azan took 2nd and Richard Bernard(another steroid posse member) placed 3rd. This Class shows signs of being very competitive, it will be interesting to see whether or not the D-Class stalwarts will continue to be regulated to also rans or stamp some authority on this Class.

He's baaacccckkk. Bassilios Hado has broken through with a win in E-Class. Folks you have got to keep an eye on this shooter. Lets see how he handles the D-Class shooters. John Shervington placed 2nd (another fresh face) and Steve Causwell(another to watch) came 3rd.

Nikolas Hudson ance again showed the rest of the Juniors who's 'The Junior' with Dillon Wilson 2nd and Geoffrey Chong a distant 3rd.

Richard Azan Junior showing he is in fine form took Sub Juniors in a canter, Adam Ziadie was 2nd barely edging out Zachary Chong. These young pups are shaping up for a real battle this season.

One other note there will be a new 'Squad' for the next shoot, it will be called "The Has been squad". Thus far there are a number of contestants vying for places on this squad. However the only position that has been filled is Captain, that dubious distinction belongs toooooo, drum roll please...........Robert Reid he of Maypen, Riva ridge fame, cyclists extraordinaire. The other contestants not in alphabetical order are, Bobby Chung, Damian Moe, Thomas Smith, and David Subaran(I heard they were even practicing at the club together). They have a coach, phone calls were made to 'Kull the Coach" while they were shooting, get this, Kull was telling them where they were missing while sitting in a Golf cart at Caymanas Golf Club. No wonder they are in the position they are in.........

Please remember the web site www.jamaicaskeetclub.com is up with a few pictures, if you have not looked at it please do so as Mike has been doing a fantastic job.

See you at the 'Maxxis Open' wonder what the prize will be for a 100 straight................. Over to you Geoffrey.

Commentary #3 - TVJ (2006-Feb-27)

The Bernard Cridland Memorial saw the in Form Shooters stamping their authority.

The President of the Jamaica Skeet Club Dennis Morgan took High over all Honours with an exquisite display of shotgun artistry. His total of 93/100 was a clear 4 targets over the runner up, Geoffrey Ziadie. Geoffrey and Robert Yap after tying on 89/100 went to a shoot off where Geoffrey repelled Robert's valiant attempt to place Runner up to Dennis Morgan. Robert had to be satisfied with A-Class 1st with Khaleel Azan and Peter McConnell placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Chris Kean has assured he will be promoted to A-Class after once again outclassing the rest of B-Class with another fine display of shooting. His score of 86/100 blew away his nearest rival(Sean Barnes) by a staggering 4 targets. Bruce duQuesnay 81/100 took 3rd place to round out B-Class.

The biggest upset of the day took place in C-Class. Eddie Azan took Class honours 80/100 after taking a long break from the sporting clays arena. Jonathon Banks, Kingsley Chin and Afeef Lazarus78/100 had a shoot off where young Jonathon outlasted Kingsley and Afeef to place 2nd and Kingsley taking 3rd spot.

D-Class saw Richard Shim 75/100 making his break through winning Class honours after making menacing threats at the last tournament. Gassan Azan was 2nd 74/100 relegating hard charging Richard Bernard to 3rd 73/100.

Bassilios Hado has shot his way to the top of E-Class with a superb 72/100 barely holding John Shervington 71/100 out of the top spot. Steve Causwell 69/100 showing that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the future placed 3rd.

Showing no signs of letting up Nikolas Hudson 69/100 once again, ran away with Juniors 1st. Dillon Wilson 58/100 was second and Geoffrey Chong 53/100 placed 3rd.

Finally, in the Sub Juniors Class, Richard Azan jr. 47/70 was impressive defeating his nearest rival by a comfortable margin. Adam Ziadie 21/70 was 2nd barely edging Zachary Chong 20/70.

Commentary #2 (2006-Feb-14)

Shoot Fans,

Lets go to Sligovile for the "Bernard Cridland" Memorial. This promises to be an exciting affair with a new twist.

This will be the first time a 'Shotgun Start' will be used. For the 'shootists' that are in the dark on what a shotgun start is, let me explain. All squads will begin at 10am on designated stations determined by the Sporting Clays Captain and his team. Shooting will commence for all squads when 2 shots are fired in rapid succession at 10am. After the squad has completed the station they will then move unto the next station in sequence and attempt the next set of exciting targets. This will continue until all stations have been exhausted or the shooters 'grip' has been packed. If all goes according to plan, all shooters will complete the course at the same time, this will make for everyone being at the prize giving which will follow approximately 30 minutes later, depending on how many shoot offs there are. Our sponsors, God Bless them all, will therefore have greater exposure and our prize giving will be better attended. If you have not pre-registered please go to our web site www.jamaicaskeetclub.com and register or down load the entry form and fax it to Craig Simpson(fax number is on the web site).

If you choose to register at the shoot please arrive early as the Sporting Clays Captain would like all shooters to be at their respective station at least 10 minutes prior to the Shotgun start.

A-Class
Yappy has served notice with a blistering 93 at Woodleigh, Maypen. It was observed that Yappy is serious about blasting everyone as it is quite evident he is now on a strict training regimen. If you do not believe me, take a good look at Sligoville and see how slim and trim he has become. The man is a lean mean shooting machine.

B Class
The big news is Chris Kean, what kind of steroids has he been using ? Albert and Kingsley you have got to check out his supplier. Well shot Chris.

C-Class
What is the world coming to, Demshire with a blistering 85 to take C-Class honors. Is he hiding and practicing, is he using the same supplier as Chris, has he bought out the rest of C-Class ????????? Sligoville will prove if he is a one shot wonder or if he is for real. In his interview with Sport Max after the shoot he was heard to remark that F-Class horses cannot beat him and Yappy had better be watching his rear view mirror...........

D-Class
Out of nowhere comes Jason Walton. The man has come back with a vengeance. At the rate he is going Demshire you had better be watching what is coming behind you. The rest of D-Class had better watch this guy he is smoooking ..............

E-Class
Its great to see some new shooters making inroads. Old veteran Ronald Brown shot 81 to run away with the Class honours, this guy seems to be in E-Class forever. New names to the scene Basilo Hado and Chris Fung Chung will they be the ones to come good in the future ? We hope so as we have seen enough one hit wonders.

Juniors
There seems to be an up and coming rivalry between Nikolas Hudson and Dillon Wilson. Geoffrey Chong is threatening to throw his hat into the fray, this Class will require some surveillance, it shows some promise.

Sub Juniors
These young pups have shown there is definitely some talent here. Zachary Chong came away with the win followed by Chad and Adam Ziadie. After observing them it is quite obvious their Fathers must be truly talented to pass on this gift.

Now what about the rest of the field,

We have yet to hear from the 'Big Dawgs' are they in hibernation with the 'Bear'.

Kurt Hudson was just barely able to keep Nikolas behind him, it won't be long now before its all over. Kurt, have a chat with John Barnes he can tell you how it feels as it has happened to him twice......

The Super Squad is no longer so Super. Bobby Chung seems to have put his shooting into retirement along with his career. Damian Moe might still be on suicide watch after much promise early last year to fall so badly when it counted most. What can we say about the 'Should-A and Could-A' Twins, they 'could-a' and 'should-a' shot a lot more..............

And finally, Rob Reid. Where oh where have you gone. Grape vine has it that he has taken up a new hobby, Bicycling. After shooting so many bicycles in sporting he wanted to find out what if felt like to actually ride one. Come back Rob, if you cannot manage Brett is always here to render assistance.

Until next time.

Commentary #1 (2006-Jan-19)

Fellow Shootists,

Its that time again, "Breakin' Clays". After a Great '2005' which saw the crowning of a New Shotgun Champion, Robert 'First time'Yap coming to the podium making the statement, 'what a nice sweetie bokkle'. Well done Yappy.

Big Congrats to our Sporting Clays Captain for a splendid job during the year running things and shooting well enough to place 3rd behind our President Dennis Morgan and Yappy (Shotgun Champion). It takes a lot of time and effort to do the job of Sporting Clays and considering how succesful the year was, only tells how much Craig brought to the job.

Now onto the juicey stuff..........

What does the year hold in store for us............

Will the 'Big Dawgs' bark or will it be a swig of Geritol, one shoot displaying of what once was, then never to be heard from, the rest of the year.........(Kull, Banksie, Leighton)

How about the Super Squad. 'Could-A and Should-A' Twins, will they be back or will they be hot air............. D. Moe displayed some fine form early but seemed to run out of steam later in the year.

The steroid squad, went underground when Conte went to jail. Supply must have ran out. Maybe a new designer drug will be forth coming.

How about those shooters that teased us with how good they could be only to leave us asking what happened ? Its full time Kurt Hudson, Suby, Brett, and Craig Davis to name a few make their mark rather than, 'thanks for coming'...........

Word is Lennin has been regulated to bag boy for Craig, say it ain't so Lennin. Time to put Craig back in his place.

How about our Juniors/Sub Juniors. Some Fathers must be worried that they will now be runner up, to the up and coming 'Fresh Prince' in the family. After holding down Dillon for much of the year I believe its all over for Demshire. Kurt Hudson you are next in line, Nikolas is right there looking over your shoulder.

Its been a long time since we have seen some old faces, come on guys/gals come see what you have been missing.

Albert, Uncle Tony is looking for his beating stick.
Metry, Kull can't manage you on the Golf Course but Sporting Clays is another story.
Ricky, Doc Royes wants to put a blessing on you with his much improved shooting.
Cooke, all is well come and display the Colin 'Kruger' form of yesteryear.
Richard, my President, in our game 'Dorval' can run for ever.
Kamal, this is a reverse, I believe you have some catching up to do to match Uncle Milade.

This promises to be an even bigger year than 2005, come out support the club and have some fun to boot.

See you there.

'Oral'.
