The Annual Renewal of Firearm Licences, Certificates and Permits commences Monday April 2nd 2007 and continues until Monday April 30th 2007 at all nineteen (19) Police Divisional Headquarters island wide.

Licensed Firearm Holders are asked to visit the Divisional Headquarters of last renewal and present the following for inspection and approval by the Firearm Clerk or Authorized Persons:

•   Firearm(s) (in the case of Holders of Users Licence)
•   Firearm Booklet, Employee Certificate or Permit with 2006 Firearm Licence Fee Certificate attached
•   Completed Request for Renewal Form
•   Proof of current Individual Private Security Regulation Authority Registration (in the case of Private Security     personnel) Original and Photocopy

You may then visit any Tax Office, present your approved Request for Renewal Form and pay the requisite fees. You will then submit your Tax Office Receipt to the Firearm Clerk to complete the process.

A Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) is NOT required for the Renewal Process.

Note: Persons who are unable to produce the 2006/2007 Licence Fee Certificate will be required to present the following additional documents:

•   2 Recent Passport size photographs
•   Tax Registration Number (TRN) Card Original and photocopy
•   Proof of Age (Birth Certificate or Passport) Original and Photocopy

As of March 21st 2007 Request for Renewal Forms may be collected from the Firearm Clerk at any Police Divisional Headquarter, Firearm Dealer or may be downloaded from our website at http://www.fla.gov.jm/. Form is to be completed in duplicate.

Deadline extended to April 30 to renew licences

THE security ministry says that although firearm licences expired on March 31, Section 44 (C) of the Firearms Act provides a grace period for renewal of licences up to April 30 FULL TEXT

FIREARM LICENSING AUTHORITY
RENEWAL OF FIREARM LICENCES 2006

With effect from April 3, 2006 the following process will apply in relation to the renewal of Firearm Licences, Certificates and Permits

Persons wishing to renew Firearm Licences, Certificate and Permits should visit the Police Division, where the Firearm Licence(s) were originally issued, along with the following:


1.

  •  Firearm Booklet(s)
  • Original and Photocopy of Employee User's Certificate, if applicable
  • Firearm(s)
  • Proof of age and photocopy (Birth Certificate or Passport)
  • TRN and a photocopy (Drivers licence with TRN is acceptable)
  • Two (2) recent passport photographs

2. At the police division, authorized person examined and verifies the authenticity of all the above against a record/database of known Firearm Licence Holders provided by the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) prior to issuing a Request for Renewal Form to applicant.

3. Applicant completes Form, attaches photocopy  of proof of age, TRN and two (2) copies of photograph and submits same to authorized person.

4. Authorized person checks and signs off on Request for Renewal Form and provides the applicant with a voucher indicating the fee which should be paid.

5. Applicant completes voucher, visits collecting agency and pays. A copy is retained by the Collecting agency.

6. Applicant returns to the Divisional Headquarter and submits the original voucher leaflet to the authorized person and retains a copy.

7. Authorized person attaches original voucher to request for Renewal Form and issues a Firearm Licence fee Certificate on security paper colour coded.

8. Persons whose booklet(s) have reached the five-year limit will be issued with a Recertification Certificate.

9. Applicant collects booklet(s) /Employee User's Certificate.
