Commentary #3 - MAXXIS in March (2007-Apr-17)

Shoot Fans,

Time to dust some clays at Caymanas again. This is turning out to be a popular venue, with the great terrain and fantastic hospitality.

Well its time to spill the beans on the Maxxis shoot held at Sligoville and wonder what will happen this weekend.

Lets start with the Sub Juniors and Juniors.

Chad Ziadie shot 43 to win Sub Juniors ahead of his brother Adam(38), Chad had better watch out as Adam will be gunning to take the top spot at the next shoot.. Simon daCosta was third(33) showing his Father(Beeky) that his money will pay dividends when spent on him.

The Juniors saw Nikolas Hudson showing a return to form with a well shot 74 ahead of Dillon Wilson(66) and Geoffrey Chong(62). Nikolas has once again showed up his Dad (Kurt, 'the large one') and Dillon inspite of shooting with his Dad (Demshire) was still able to tie him. Geoffrey Chong after a long break has shown he has the potential to challenge for the top spot(maybe he has some of the immense talent his Father commands).

In the Ladies section we had a blast from the past with Mrs. Delisser(46) coming out on top, Toni Barnes(38) and Christine Cain(35) second and third respectively. Mrs. Delisser has been away for a long time but it is good to see her back, and in the winners circle no less, now we need to see what her husband, Dale, will do to steal her thunder.

E Class saw Mike Fisher(73) walking away with Class honours. Garfield Sang (66) was second followed by Geoffrey Chong(62). Mike has served notice that he is the 'The Big Dawg' in the class and he will be a force to be reckoned with. Who will step up and knock him off......

D Class saw Grant Sturko(69) edging out Robbie MCMillan(65) and Tony Gooden(62). Grant has come back with a vengance after being relegated to also ran at the previous shoots. Robbie McMillan is showing signs that the sleeper may be awakening(about time), hopefully its not to roll over and dissapear once again. Now fellow shootists I am not one to expose someone publickly but Tony Gooden has stooped to new lows. He was heard 'bawling' how tough the targets were, but it seems it was a ploy to get everyone off their game so he could post a big score. We will keep an eye on this tactic in the future........

In C Class Oliver Chen(79) has come out of hibernation, it has been a while since his last sighting, hopefully he will not be a one hit wonder. Second was Nikolas Hudson(74) and Paul Josephs(71), surprising everyone with a place on the podium. It was rumoured that Chris daCosta(Beeky) was seen practicing diligently at the club preparing for this shoot. It was even said that he looked good at the club and should be a strong contender. After being shut out it seems he is a great practice horse.........

This shoot has brought a lot of folks out of the cold, Najeeb Haber(75) squeaked out a narrow win in B Class after a shoot off with in form Ruel 'Tuffy' Chung(75). Lenin Thompson(73) was third, edging out Milade Azan using the long run method. I'm sure Milade will be gunning for revenge at the next shoot. Not sure what has happenned to the big shooters in this class as they all fell by the wayside with dismal performances.

A Class saw newly wed Damian Moe(81) defeating Marc Barnes in a shoot off. It seems that married life agrees with Damian wonder what children will do for him.....Ian Banks(80) was third using the long run method over Gregory Chong, Bobby Chung, and Dennis 'Clean Shoes' Morgan.
HOA in an exciting shoot off was won by Geoffrey Ziadie(84) over Robert 'Slim' Yap(84). In what has to be the greatest display of spotsmanship Yappy tried to give it to Geoffrey in the first shoot off and Geoffrey tried to return the favour during the second shoot off. Congratulations to both for a fine display of shooting.

Folks its been a while since some of the members of the super squad have been seen. While Bobby and Damian are usually around the top 'Should-A and Could-A' have been absent. I pray they make a speedy comeback as things have been remarkably quiet of late.........

Can anyone help 'Whip less', Leighton 'Dawgy' Sasso. He has been trying everything to regain the glory of yesteryear to no avail. He may need to receive instructions from the great Brett Thwaites to spur him out of the quagmire he presently finds himself. Please any assistance before he is placed on suicide watch...........

Once again Maxis put on a good show and everyone had fun attempting station 3 I believe it was, where if you ran the station you would have automatically received $2,500.00 off you next purchase of Maxxis tyres. Needless to say everyone will be purchasing their Maxxis tyres at full price. The lunch provided was a summtious affair. Geoffrey Ziadie and Maxxis tyres must be commended for setting the mark to which others must follow.

Our next shoot will be held at Caymanas Golf and Country Club on April 22nd. This promises to be another well organised event with challenging but hittable targets, Tony.

See you there.
Grego.

Commentary #2 - P.W.D. in February (2007-Mar-07)

Shoot aficionados,

We went to PWD for another well organised event. The event started a half an hour late but that was because of the late arrivals of some competitors, we have got to figure away to get Jamaicans to arrive on time.....might be easier to solve world hunger.

Anyway unto the important facts.

The Sub Juniors Class was won by Simon DaCosta, he edged out Jacob Zacca into 2nd place and Chad Ziadie into 3rd. These youngsters are serving notice that they will be a force to reckon with come bird season.

Juniors Class was keenly contested with Dillon Wilson coming out victorious by the narrowest of margins over Richard Azan and an up and coming Lady shooter Toni Barnes. Dillon and young Azan are showing they can manage the clays, just like helping their Dads shoot their bags during bird season. Ms. Barnes has served notice that her cousins Sean and Marc are not the only ones with talent, watch out fellows.......

E-Class saw Anthony Phillips victorious over Winston Barnes and Stafford Hyde. This Class remains the most competitive class, no one person has stepped up to dominate. Who will be 'Da Man'?

Young Richrad Azan took D-Class honours beating back the efforts of Jamie Saulter and Grant Sturko. Azan has shown the 'Steroid Posse' that he can do it with out help. Doc. Taylor 'The Best Bird Shooter in Jamaica' has threatened that he will soon be an unstoppable force, all beware.......

C-Class was led by Dillon Wilson followed by Howie Mac and Kingsley Chin. Its becoming a regular habit for Dillon to be beating his Father, Demshire, on a regular basis. Some have suggested that Demshire stop shooting and just carry Dillon's bag. This class has a lot of promise, unfortunately broken promises are all that is prevalent. It seems as if this class is more of a camping ground, some of these shooters appear to be here permanently.

B-Class. Shaun Barnes walked away with the blue ribbon while Kamaal Azan 'placed' and Charlie Royes 'showed'. Shaun has the A Class shooters in his sights, dying to have a crack at them. Kamaal, after a long layoff is showing he is back, and steady Doc. Royes has stated he never left.

The President, Errol Ziadie, took A-Class beating back Ian Banks and Bobby Chung. It was not long ago that it was being said Errol and Banksie were done, finished , washed up, but here they are back like 'Nupak'(for those old enough to remember). My only concern is Leighton Saso, he has lost the 'Whip'. Can anyone help?

Craig Simpson was PWD Champion with a magnificient 89 on a good course. After threatening at Woodleigh Craig has broken through to the top spot. Geoffrey Ziadie took Runner up getting a little revenge on his Father after being beaten by him at Woodleigh.

Shootists the next sporting clays shoot will be March 18 at Sligoville. This will be sponsored by Maxxis Tyre and promises to be another stellar event. I am told there will be lots of prizes and surprises.

Our victorious team, Errol Ziadie, Khaleel Azan, Craig Simpson, Tommy Smith and whip less(Leighton Sasso) will be present, fresh from the Rhino Rally. Come out and meet them, ask them about their triumph.

See you there,
Grego.

Commentary #1 - NCB Capital Markets in December (2007-Jan-21)

Fellow Shootists,

Its a new year and much has happened.

First off Congrats to immediate past President Dennis 'Clean Shoes' Morgan for his outstanding shooting at the All Jamaica Championship. He took home first place in the Sporting Clays and 5-Stand and was just edged out of first in the FITASC by Robert 'Slim' Yap. It was rumoured that Banksie and Errol 'The Bear' Ziadie were praying for rain and muddy walkways to put 'Clean Shoes' off his game, it did not work.

We have a new President, Errol Ziadie, and an Executive chock full of fresh faces and some really oldies but goodies....welcome back Kul, Tommy and Demshire.... We look forward to a great year and I know the membership will throw there full support behind the Ziadie led Executive.

At the last Tournament "NCB Capital Markets" this was once again a well attended event.

Lets start with E-Class, a newcomer, Grant Sturko, came away with Class honours beating Raymond Yap and Robbie Subaran into second and third respectively. Will Grant be able to carry this momentum into the new year or is he a one shot wonder????

D-Class saw Andrew Simpson of the Simpson Clan topping Dillon Wilson and Peter Shoucair. Andrew's shooting ability has shown tremendous improvement after the bird season. I need to shoot with Andrew next bird season...... Once again Dillon has shown that inspite of his Father(Demshire) he has the talent to get him to challenge the top shooters in his Class. His Mom must have incredible hidden talent.

Richard Ramson took home C-Class first, David Lazarus was second and Spencer Chung placed third. Richard has he signaled his intentions for '2007', will his star burn out quickly? David Lazarus a converted skeet shooter will he enjoy the success he had as a skeet shooter, and Spencer 'Trainer' Chung will he display the talent that his Brother Bobby has shown? I believe this Class will prove to be an exciting one with all the talent available.

Ruel 'Tuffy' Chung after a long hiatus displayed fine shooting by taking first in B-Class. Junior Clarke was second and Shaun Barnes was third. Tuffy has denied it, but I believe he has been practicing on the quiet in St. Thomas. This is another Class that should be competitive especially if some of the shooters can produce the talents they are capable of.

Well folks, here we get to the 'Big Dawgs', some of which have had their bark reduced to a quiet whimper. Joey 'Could-A' Chin eked out victory from Craig 'Too Tall' Simpson and Ian 'Use to be Good' Banks was third. However when all is said and done they all have to bow their heads to Craig 'Steroid' Davis. Craig was HOA while Khaleel 'Nightmare' Azan was runner up.(In case you are wondering why 'Nightmare', its because like a bad dream Kull keeps coming back). Craig shot brilliantly to take the HOA trophy and needless to say he will be the target of many in the coming year. Many will be watching to see if this was a fluke or does he have the gumption to maintain the standard........We will see.........

Folks the next shoot will be held at Woodleigh in Maypen on January 21st. Master course setter O'Neil, has promised a challenging fun filled course. We hope to see you all there.

Grego.
