Winners ListHOA: Ian Banks (87) CommentaryWell, we all went expecting rain but being a day of 'Miracles on the Savannah, there was none! There were cries FOR rain as the heat beat down on us all. Not even streams of sweat however could dampen a wonderful day of shooting clays at the Savannah Hunting & Fishing Club this year. The targets were excellent, with detailed discussions still going on; debates on which was the hardest pair. There has been NO consensus on what was the easiest pair! It certainly was a course for all seasons. The great spread afterwards was no surprise. Those familiar with the Savannah shoot have come to expect excellent food with memorable 'Portland Style' jerk pork and we were not disappointed. The well stocked bar was an added treat for some; both in celebration or to drown their sorrows. The real stories of the day were not the great food, challenging course or fine Portland hospitality, but the performances! There were surprise finishes, early pop-downs and long over-due class wins. Ian Banks (87) has placed in the top 5 for every shoot this year and kept the momentum up with his second HOA for the year. Congrats Banksie! Stephen 'Paco' Seaga (86), who has finished 1 bird out of the runnings at the last two shoots, found the formula this Sunday for RUP after an exciting three-way shootoff. David 'Miracle on the Savannah' Subaran (86) and Geoffrey 'Safety Man' Ziadie (86) earned A1 and A2 respectively. Alberts' attention to detail, putting the gun on safety after cleaning, and Geoffreys lack of attention in taking the gun off safety is a lesson Geoffrey will be hard pressed to forget the next time! We're not sure if the frog Khaleel stepped on during the shoot-off threw off anyones concentration? Errol Ziadie (83) finished up a fine 100 bird shoot with a great shoot-off score to edge out Robert Reid for A3. B class saw Christian 'Puppy' Sasso (80) winning back to back tournaments and moving up to A class. The Big Dog may go from whip-less to whip-ped now that his son is in the same class! We shall see. Richard Ramson (75) and Lenin Thompson (70) rounded out B class. The race to get out of C class has become larger as Mike Fisher (71) has thrown his gun into the ring with a C1. All Jamaica promises to be exciting for this class. Albert Chow (66) and Richard Bernard (65) were also C class winners on the day. with C2 and C3. Mike Bradford (66) has left D and joined the C class foray with a fine D1 win. The winners announced for D and E were a little mixed up and we apologise for this. The final results are shown here and we especially apologise to those who were given the wrong trophy, or who were not given a trophy they won, on the day. We are working towards getting rid of these problems in the future. With that said, on with the show. Robert 'Billy' Clarke (62) won D2. In E class, an exceptional score put Andrew Madden (68) in E1 and bumped him up to D for All Jamaica. It is a long over-due and well deserved class win for Andrew. Congrats! The winning-est shooter on Sunday was Toni Barnes (60) whose excellent score won her E2, Ladies first AND Junior first. Congratulations Toni. Rory Chung (59) was the E3 winner. Portland certainly attracted the ladies this year, with four (4) lady shooters, three of them juniors. Patsy Kelly (51) took second, behind Toni Barnes, and ahead of Annabelle Asher (42) who took third. The junior class had five entries, with Jordan Thwaites (47) ahead of Adrian Bradford (46). They came second and third behind Ms. Toni Barnes. The Ziadie boys continue to own sub-junior class. Chad Ziadie (54) won with a score that is getting mighty close to winning E class as well! Adam Ziadie (36) put in a fine performance shooting with the family squad! All in all, it was a very enjoyable day, with some outstanding performances and even a miracle or two! Come on out to the Club and get a few practice rounds in before the All Jamaica in July. See you all then. Full Results
